Founder of Irishfest La Crosse
"The spirit of Ireland lives on through the people who celebrate it."
For more than two decades, Pat Stephens shared his passion, enthusiasm, and unmistakable optimism with everyone he met. His dream was simple yet powerful—to create an event that celebrated Irish culture while bringing the community together through music, friendship, laughter, and tradition.
That dream became Irishfest La Crosse.
What began as an idea grew into one of the Coulee Region's most beloved annual traditions, welcoming thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the rich heritage of Ireland in the heart of La Crosse. Pat believed Irishfest was about far more than entertainment. It was about building community, creating lifelong memories, and making everyone—Irish or not—feel like family.
Those who knew Pat understood why he earned the nickname "Positive Pat." His infectious smile, encouraging words, tireless work ethic, and unwavering belief in people inspired countless volunteers, sponsors, performers, and festival guests. He had an incredible ability to bring people together and make them feel valued.
Pat's legacy extends far beyond the festival grounds. It lives on through:
Every volunteer who gives their time.
Every musician who takes the stage.
Every family that creates memories together.
Every laugh shared over great food, music, and Irish hospitality.
Every person who proudly celebrates Ireland in the Heart of La Crosse.
While we will deeply miss Pat's presence, his vision continues to guide Irishfest La Crosse. Come this August, as the music begins and friends gather once again, we will be reminded that this celebration exists because one person believed our community deserved something special.
Thank you, Pat, for your friendship, leadership, and unwavering positivity.
Your spirit continues to inspire us all.
Sláinte Pat!
