FIDDLE COMPETITION CATEGORIES

Adult/Open
Adult competitors must be age 18 or over.
The performance must not exceed 3 minutes.
Performance must include 2 of the following 3 options: a reel, a jig, or a slow tune (air, waltz, etc.), from memory

Teen
Teen competitors must be between the ages of 13 and 17.
Performance must include either a jig or reel.

Junior
Competitors in the Junior category must be between the ages of 6 and 12.
Performance must include a jig, reel or polka.
FIDDLE CONTEST NOTES
The contest will be held in the Cultural Tent, located toward the back of the grounds. There will be a Catholic Mass 10-11:00am, please be respectful of this event.
All performers must supply and be responsible for their own instrument and equipment. No electronic amplification of instruments will be allowed other than through the sound system provided.
Contestants must pre-register before the festival online, and check in at the volunteer booth located outside the Main Gate of the festgrounds on 2nd Street at least 30 minutes prior to the competition. Contestants must be ready to play when called. A contestant's failure to appear within a reasonable time of being called to the stage may, at the discretion of the judge panel and the contest administrator, result in disqualification.
Contestants, please be respectful of the time limitations. If you exceed the playing time, the judges may deduct points from your total score. We love to hear you perform, but want to provide others the same opportunity
The opinion of the judge panel is final. In entering this contest, all competitors agree that sponsors may record, photograph and/or reproduce competition performances, free of claim of contestants. The organizers reserve the right to adjust the competition categories based on the number of registered participants. Contestants will be judged on technique (tone quality, rhythm, intonation), appropriateness of fiddling style (tempo, bowing and ornamentation), and stage presence. Level of difficulty will also be factored in the scoring by the judges. Performance should include contrasting styles and tempos.
Prizes: • 1st Place Winners in each category will receive $100 cash
• 2nd Place Winners in each category will receive $50 cash
• 3rd Place Winners in each category will received $25 cash
• Ribbons will be given out to 6th place At the completion of the finale, all participants will gather for a “Fiddle Scattering”. The fiddle players will perform as an ensemble with the Irish song: “Kerry Polka” to finish the contest. Sheet music attached at end of this form.
After the competition, plan to take advantage and enjoy the rest of the festival for that day. Performers will be admitted to the grounds at no charge. Admission to the grounds for all other family members and friends during (10-11am) is a donation of non-perishable foods or a cash donation for the Hunger Task Force. A Catholic Mass will be held at 10 a.m.-11:00am in the Cultural Tent, please be respectful of this event. A ticket will be required if no donation is made or you enter after 11 a.m.

Registration Information:
Late registrations may not be accepted depending on space and time availability. Plan to sign in at the volunteer booth (outside main entrance of Fest Grounds on 2nd Street) no later than 30 minutes before the start of the competition, then proceed to the Cultural Tent where the competition will be held.
Please note that even if you have pre-registered for the contest, you will still need to sign-in at the competition site at least one half-hour before the competition in order to receive a playing order on the day of the competition.
