The Shamrock Club of Wisconsin was formed in 1960 by individuals interested in promoting Irish Heritage. Since that time, the club has grown into one of the largest ethnic organizations in the state, with chapters spread throughout Wisconsin. Each chapter operates independently serving their particular area's Club needs. The Greater La Crosse Area Shamrock Club, inc. was started in 1973.

The mission of the LBFA is to assist the people of La Crosse and surrounding area in learning about the traditions, history, way of life and values of Bantry, Ireland, while at the same time encouraging the people of Bantry to learn the traditions, history, way of life, and values of La Crosse and the United States.
Our relationship with Bantry, Ireland, is unique and features cooperative efforts in such diverse activities as education, sports, the arts, government agencies and public policy, business, and many others. La Crosse’s varied cultural backgrounds of its citizens has resulted in an environment that ensures foreign visitors are welcome. We support a variety of cultural activities and events. Many of these events are supported and coordinated by the City’s International Committee.
In addition, the City of La Crosse has an active International Committee, which ensures representation from each of our six Sister Cities. This committe brings together citizens interested in promoting international awareness and citizen diplomacy.
